1. Select an example map below that is similar to what you would like to map.
2. Copy and paste the data table into Excel or Google Sheets.
3. Edit the colors and categories in Excel or Google Sheets. You can add and remove rows. You can express colors with hex (#be123c), a name (red), HSL (hsl(350 100% 40%)), or RGB (rgb(255 0 0)).
4. Copy from Excel or Google Sheets back into the data table. Clear out the old contents before pasting.

Each row needs three columns: region, category, and color. Use tabs between columns. Regions can be US states and territories on the map, Canadian provinces and territories, Mexican states, Central American, Caribbean, and South American countries, and European, Asian, African, and Oceania countries (whole country, not subdivisions).
